(EMORY, VA) -- The University of Maine - Presque Isle women's softball team dropped a pair of games against Emory & Henry College on Monday afternoon. The Owls have lost 4 straight and have begun the season 1-10. After playing 5 games in 4 days in Virginia, UMPI will travel to Delaware Tuesday to face Washington Adventist in a doubleheader at 4pm/6pm.
Game #1: Emory & Henry 10, UMPI 0 (5 innings)
Despite both teams only managing 4 hits, the Wasps came out victorious thanks in part to 6 UMPI errors. E & H jumped out to a 5-0 lead after one inning and tallied at least one run in each frame.
Krista Coffin (So./Presque Isle, ME) took the loss for UMPI giving up all 10 runs, although only 3 were earned. In 4 innings of work Coffin gave up 4 hits, walked 5, while striking out 2.
Game #2: Emory & Henry 5, UMPI 0
UMPI's bats could not overcome stellar Wasp pitching in game two and again was only able to scratch out 4 hits. Carolynn Tuck (Sr./Brewer, ME) led the Owls offense going 2-3 with a stolen base. UMPI cleaned up their defensive issues from game one, committing only one error in game 2. However, E & H was able to pound out 13 hits to help their cause.
Starter Courtney Bishop (Fr./Saco, ME) kept Wasp hitters off balance until the 3rd. After a one-out single, E & H 1B Jennifer True sent a pitch out of the yard, giving her team a 2-0 lead. That was more than enough support for Wasps' starter Brandy Bryant. Bryant notched her first win of the season pitching a complete game shutout and striking out 14 Owls' hitters.
