General comments:

The return of Junior Philip Boody (New Sweden, ME) to racing was a boost for the Owls' contingent with his third place finish bringing the team score down considerably.  His consistently paced race was a good indicator of things to come as he continues to work back the form that placed him 17th at last November's USCAA national meet in Lake Placid, NY.  Freshman Thomas Grylka's (Fr./East Hapmton, CT) experience in last week's UNE invitational was factored into a better paced opening mile (5:42), allowing him to stay strong throughout and shake Taylor Noble of Unity after the three mile point.  Even in a small field dual meet this will be a motivator for Thomas as the bar has been set.  Tyler and Garrett Hilton (Fr./Charleston, ME) improved from last week as well in running 33:53 (6th place) and 33:29 (5th place), respectively.  The brothers are becoming more accustomed to the 8K distance and will factor experience and another week under Coach Smith's system into the return match next week at Unity.  Scoring was rounded out by Richard Landry (Shubenachadie, NS), in at 42:28 for 9th place.

Coach Smith's comments:

"Home course familiarity was a benefit but unless raced on before this terrain and turf can be deceiving.  The rolling hills and soft grass surface throughout will reach up and grab you if these factors are not considered in pre-race strategy sessions.  Throw in the fact that this was only the second cross country race for four of our runners today and you have a situation ripe for learning, with either positive or somewhat tough outcomes possible.  Our men today all ran intelligently and gained a lot of valuable experience."

Next week:  At Unity College.
