Owls Fall Short in Late Game Comeback

Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls men's soccer team hosted the Fisher College Falcons today at Park Family Field. The Falcons ended with a 3-2 win through the 90-minute match.

Fisher came out to an early lead, off a goal in the 11th minute and another in the 18th minute. Giving them a 2-0 lead early in the first half. Fisher maintained control of the first half until a through ball by Paul Kaplan (Jr. Embden, ME), led Hunter Wardwell (Fy. Mars Hill, ME) perfectly, as he buried it in the back of the net just before the half expired.

The Falcons came out strong once again, but this time so did the Owls as the physical game continued to go back and forth. Fisher was able to push their lead back up to two on a goal in the 52nd minute. UMPI did not slow down their pressure on both ends of the floor despite the two point lead by the Falcons. Wardwell out ran the defense once again off another through ball, this time from Jacob Worthley (Jr. Houlton, ME), allowing him to earn his second goal of the game.

UMPI, down one, continued to put pressure on Fishers net, but were not able to get one through before time expired and Fisher took home the 3-2 win. This brings UMPI to a 6-7 record, and still a 1-5 conference record; while Fisher advances to 7-6-2, still 0-1 in their conference.

The Owls will host NAC opponent Maine Maritime Academy for their senior day game at 1:00 PM on Saturday the 26th.
