Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI men's soccer team hosted Unity College match at Park Family Field. The Owls won 1-0 on a goal early in the second half by Andre Rossignol (So. Van Buren, ME).
The ball spent the majority of the game at center field as both team fought hard on the defensive end. The Owls led the way at the half with eight shots to the Rams three, all three of which were on goal. Also putting pressure on Unity's defense inside the 18 with five corners in the first half.
Just three minutes in the second half, Rossignol was fouled inside the 18, after a beautiful set up by teammate Hunter Wardwell (Fy. Mars Hill, ME). He would hammer a goal in the back of the net to give the Owls a 1-0 lead. The Owls continued to put pressure on the Rams goalie, Sam Napper, with five shots on goal in the second half.
The single goal would be enough for UMPI, thanks to the defense by the Owls, led by goalie Keith Mank (Fy. Raymond, ME) with six saves in his shut out game.
The Owls next match is another home one vs conference opponent Northern Vermont-Lyndon, on Homecoming weekend, Saturday 28th at noon.
