CASTINE, Maine – Junior Jonathan Reeks scored five goals against the visiting Maine-Presque Isle Owls to give the Mariners the 5-0 victory Tuesday afternoon, at Ritchie Field.

Reeks accomplished something that has not been done in 7,283 days for Maine Maritime Academy, and now joins the record books tied for second all-time in most goals scored in a game.

The Mariners pressured the Owl net heavily in the first half, battering Owl keeper Caleb Bragg-Grady with 18 shots in the first 45 minutes of action.  Bragg-Grady was equal to the task for the most part; making 9 saves in that same period with some spectacular efforts to hold the game within reach during the first half.  With a little under 14 minutes remaining in the first half Reeks shot a ball that was deflected and somehow stopped by Bragg-Grady who was upside down tangled on the ground with Mariner Kyle Haslam.

Spearheaded by the heroic effort from Bragg-Grady, the game was knotted 0-0 until the 44th minute of the first half when Reeks snuck the ball to the bottom left hand corner of Bragg-Grady, after a play up from teammate Bryan Soucy. The Mariners took their 1-0 lead into the half.

Reeks found the back of the net again in the 62nd minute, when he beat Bragg-Grady for a score, and again just seven minutes later set the mark 3-0 Maine Maritime.

In the 79th minute Reeks struck twice, giving the Mariners the 5-0 lead and eventual victory.

Bragg-Grady grabbed 14 saves, allowing 3 goals in the loss. Sharing time in net for the Owls was Matt Manter who stopped two shots while allowing two goals.  In all, the Mariners outshot the Owls 32-2 and held an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Owls will next host Fisher College at the 2014 Homecoming match on Saturday, September 20 as part of a men's/women's doubleheader.  Women's action starts at noon, with the men's match to follow.
