Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls men's basketball team hosted the University of Maine at Augusta Moose, earning the win and advancing their record to 3-6 with just one more first semester game remaining. The Owls pulled off the win 80-60 with a consistent lead throughout the game.
The Owls and Moose started the game with some back and forth play in the first five minutes before the Owls went on a 13-3 run in just three minutes to give them an early lead. The Owls jumped on another quick run 14-3 late in the half and held the lead going into the half up 48-31. The Owls maintained their lead throughout the second half with some solid team play on the offensive end and hustle plays on the defensive end.
Gilbert Jean Mendez (Clearwater, FL) led the Owls early with 12 first half points, finishing with a game high 17 points off 50% shooting and 3-8 from 3 to go along with his eight rebounds and four assists. KJ Minter (Elkton, MD) finished with a season high 14 points only missing one field goal on 7-8 shooting. The Owls team basketball paid off as they finished the game with five players in double figures.
The Owls will finish off their first semester games with a game vs Fisher College tomorrow Saturday, December 11 at 3:00PM.
