Castine, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle men's basketball team traveled to Castine to take on North Atlantic Conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy. The Owls advance to 4-7 in the NAC in the 74-62 win over the Mariners.
The Owls came out strong on the defensive end, holding the Mariners to only 25 first half points and causing 13 turnovers. Going into halftime up 44-25, the Owls came out of the half still very active, bring the lead to 20 points with under 10 minutes to go in the game. A quick run by MMA brought them within eight points with just under three minutes to go. It was too late and UMPI was able to put the Mariners away, despite the efforts of the Mariners, led by Nicholas DePatsy's 23-point performance.
The Owls were led by KJ Minter (So. Elkton, MD), earning his first career double-double with 15 points off 7-8 shooting and ten rebounds to go along with some outstanding defense. Shyquinn Dix (Jr. Stamford, CT) led the Owls in scoring with 18 and five assists. Te'Von Hines (Sr. Alexandria, VA) finished with 14 points off 6-11 shooting and 2-3 from three while grabbing seven rebounds. Griffin Guerrette (So. Presque Isle, ME) finished with 12 points and five assists on the night.
The Owls will head to Thomas College on Saturday for their last road conference game of the year; tip off at 4:00PM.
