Presque Isle, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls men's basketball team hosted the Thomas College Terriers in their first home game of the spring semester. The Owls slow start put them down in a close game that they were never able to recover from, eventually losing 70-64.
The Terriers came out strong with a 10-4 lead in the first five minutes of the game off of some early looks from Zach Mackinnon. Thomas kept their foot on the gas eventually going us 28-13 with five minute left in the first half, before the Owls went on an 11-4 run to end the half, cutting the lead to nine points.
Despite the poor shooting from the Owls their defense kept them in the game, allowing them to get multiple opportunities at a comeback, but they were just unable to make those shots late in the game, while the Terriers finished the game 5-7 from the free throw line to put the game away.
Shyquinn Dix (Jr. Stamford, CT) led the Owls in scoring with 18 points and ten rebounds in his double-double performance. Wilburn Griffith (Sr. Queens, NY) also had an impressive double-double with 17 points on 8-13 shooting and 11 rebounds. Te'Von Hines (Sr. Alexandria, VA) finished with 11 points off 5-10 from the field.
The Owls will host another NAC opponent in Maine Maritime Academy this Saturday the 25th at 4:00PM.
