BANGOR, ME – After a hot start, the University of Maine at Presque Isle (0-2) would falter down the stretch and lose 75-57 to host Husson University (2-0) on Saturday.
The Owls would jump on the Eagles in the first five minutes, with five different players chipping in points in the early going to give UMPI a 13-3 run. The Eagles would get back in the game with a 10-2 run of their own, but the visitors would hold a lead for much of the first half. With 4:42 remaining in the first half Husson would grab the lead for the first time in the contest and the two teams would exchange baskets. The Owls would go into halftime trailing by four.
UMPI's shooting would drop off in the second half just enough to allow the Eagles to build a lead. Surrendering seven offensive rebounds to their hosts, combined with multiple two to three-minute scoring droughts, would allow Husson to go on runs and build a commanding lead. The Owls would fall on the road by a score of 75-57.
Kevin Collins (JR, Oxen Hill, MD) would lead the Owls with 12 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Nick Lenhard (SR, Falcon, CO) and Kim Collins (SR, Oxen Hill, MD) would add eight points, while Anthony Chacho (JR, Watertown, CT) would grab nine rebounds.
The Owls will return home and play host to the Central Maine Community College Mustangs on Wednesday. That game will tip off at 2 PM.
