PLYMOUTH, NH – A furious comeback by the Plymouth State Panthers (10-1) paired with a cold second half by the University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls (4-6) resulted in a tough loss for UMPI. A buzzer beating game winner made the Panthers victorious on their home court 69-66.
The Owls came out of the locker room hot to start the game, shooting 59.3% from the floor including seven of nine from the three point line. Chase Vicaire (SR, Mattawamkeg, ME) paced the attack with sixteen points, and Kevin Collins (SO, Oxen Hill, MD) had ten, as the Owls extended a sixteen point lead at the half. The Panthers would pick up the pace in the second half, shooting 48.5% from the field and hitting four of nine from behind the arc. The Owls would take an 18 point lead before the Panthers would go on a 20-4 run in a ten minute span to close to within two points. From there it was a back and forth battle as the teams traded leads heading down the stretch.
With just 23 seconds left in the game, UMPI's Derek Healy (JR, Hanover, MA) would drive the lane and tie the game at 66, setting up the dramatic finish. On the final play of the game, the Panther's Brian Bouley (SO, Keene, NH) dribbled into the lane and nearly lost the ball, before flipping it out to Junior Curtis Arsenault (Berlin, NH) who drained a fall-away three-pointer from the left wing as time expired, giving Plymouth State University a dramatic 69-66 come-from-behind win.
Vicaire would cool off in the second half, finishing with 19 points and four steals. Kevin Collins would finish with 14 points and seven rebounds, while sophomore Maurice Harris (Miami, FL) would add twelve points. Plymouth State's Arsenault would finish with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Bouley would end the night with 16 points.
The Owls return home to face Thomas College on Sunday before taking a Holiday Break. The game will take place after the Women's Teams face-off, roughly around 3 PM.
