Presque Isle, Maine - UMPI (2-1) used the inside power game of freshman Thiago Conceicao and team balance to overcome a 3-point halftime deficit to defeat visiting Maine Maritime Academy (0-3) 65-58 tonight.


With the game tied at 31 two minutes into the second half, UMPI used a 11-3 run in the next 8 minutes of play to take an 8 point lead.  Maritime fought back with their own 8 point run to tie the game 42-42 with 8:51 left in the game.


Sophomore sniper Chase Vicaire would hit three consecutive 3-pointers after the last tie of the game at the 8:51 mark and the youthful Owls would hold onto the hard-earned lead and move to 2-1 on the season.


Conceicao, living up to his nickname "The Beast" continued his dominating play, scoring a game high 19 with 11 rebounds, 4 blocks and added 3 steals.  Tyler Chaisson was the high man for MMA, tallying 13 and 7 boards.  A trio of Owls-freshman Sean Manganti, Warner and Vicaire chipped in with 12 points apiece to help UMPI to the win, with Warner adding 10 rebounds as well.


UMPI next plays Fisher College Saturday, as part of the Colby College Tournament.
