Owls Fall to Brockport in a Late Game Finish

Auberndale, FL – The Owls Baseball team fell to Brockport as both teams battled it out through nine innings. Falling to Brockport 4-2.

Game 1 (14-3 – Brockport):

How it happened:

The Owls found themselves up in the second after starting the scoring off with a run in the second. Payton Jones (Green Cove Springs, FL) hit an RBI single to give the Owls their first run of the game, bringing Nathan Church (Dover Foxcroft, ME) home. UMPI scored another off an error in the third to bring their lead to two. Brockport answered back in the third with an RBI single to give them their first run of the game. The next few innings stayed quiet on the scoreboard, until the bottom of the sixth when Brockport tied the game with another RBI single. With a back and forth battle on the mound, it was Brockport that broke the drought in the bottom of the eighth off a two run homer. The Owls would not be able to bring Jones home despite being on second with zero outs, as they lost 4-2.

On the mound:

Steed Outler (Flower Mound, TX) pitched his third complete game of the year on the mound, pitching all eight innings as he battled Brockport striking out five batters and allowing seven hits and four earned runs. MattMcGowan earned the win for Brockport, pitching the first seven innings, striking out five batters and allowing one earned run and six hits.

At the plate:

Junior Payton Jones led UMPI at the plate with an outstanding four hits on four at bats including the Owls only RBI on the night. Joey Blake (Standardsville, VA) finished one for three and two walks at the plate. The Owls finished with seven hits on the game and two walks as a team.

The Owls will continue their spring trip with two games against MCLA starting at 1:30PM
