Owls Win Final Game of the Year

Presque Isle, ME – The Owls baseball team traveled to the University of Maine at Farmington in a doubleheader. The teams split their last games of the year at the Owls took the win in their last game of the year. The Beavers took game one, 14-5 and the Owls won game two 7-3.

Game 1

14-5, UMF

Jordan Hanscom (Lincoln, ME) started the game on the mound for UMPI, pitching the first 3.1 innings, giving up seven earned runs and nine hits. Kaiden Crowley (Jonesport, ME) came in to pitch the remainder of the game finishing with three strikeouts, letting up five earned runs. Chris Albert earned the win on the mound for the Beavers.

Nicholas Perfitt (Houlton, ME) started the Owls off early with an RBI double in the first. Hanscom followed, hitting in another run off a fielder's choice, while Cullen Marrella (Willard, NY) added their third run in the first inning, hitting a RBI single. The Beavers answered with a homer in the second inning, followed by five runs in the third inning and another seven runs in the fourth.

William Stinson (Norridgewock, ME) then singled in the top of the fifth inning, bringing Joseph Blake (Standardsville, VA) home. Perfitt followed with a RBI double, scoring Stinson. The Beavers then added another run in the bottom of the fifth. Stinson ended the game hitting 4-4 at the plate with an RBI, while Perfitt hit 3-4 with two RBI's.

Game 2

7-3, UMPI

Nicholas Perfitt (Houlton, ME) pitched the complete game for the Owls in their first win of the year. Pitching 122 pitched, striking out nine batters and only allowing eight hits and three earned runs. Jordi Valls started the game for the Beavers, pitching the first five innings and letting up three earned runs, with six strikeouts.

An early start for the Beavers this time, with a run in the bottom of the first inning. After short second inning, the Owls took the lead in the third. Joseph Blake doubled to center field, bringing two runs in. The Beavers immediately tied it up in the bottom of the third off an RBI single.

The Owls then took back the lead in the fifth inning, scoring one off an error by the Beavers. Perfitt then followed with a two RBI double to extend the lead to three, 5-2. Another run for the Owls in the sixth inning of a two RBI single from Patrick Outler (Flower Mound, TX), extended UMPI's lead to five runs. The Beavers added one run in the sixth but it was not enough as the Owls took the game 7-3.

Perfitt finished the game with two hits on four at bats, plus two RBI's. Cullen Marrella (Willard, NY) finished the game 2-3 at the plate, scoring two runs for the Owls. Outler and Blake each finished with two RBI's as well.
