The University of Maine at Presque Isle Baseball team announces three more recruits committing out of Maine, Florida and North Carolina. Jacob Bickford, Kyle Nichols and Daniel Reyes each have recently committed verbally to attending UMPI and playing on the 2021 Owls baseball team.
Jacob Bickford out of Dexter, Maine attended Dexter Regional High School for four years. Bickford finished his senior year of baseball hitting .404 with zero strikeouts on the year. The Shortstop had only one error on his 52 attempts on the season while also pitching five games with a 1.1 ERA. In his time at Dexter, Bickford was the 2018 Class C PVC player of the year and named to the All-American Team, 1st Team Pitcher and received Mr. Baseball Nominations. Bickford plans to major in Early Childhood Education.
"Jacob brings another solid pitcher to our staff as I remember watching him play his Senior year and I know with his determination he will be the pitcher he was then," UMPI Head Baseball Coach Stinson continued, "[He] also brings another solid glove to our team. I am looking forward to seeing him grow in the next 4 years as an Owl."
Kyle Nichols from Durham, North Carolina, graduated from Trinity School of Durham and Chapel Hill and will major in Exercise Science at UMPI. Nichols is a versatile Utility infielder that played 3B, 2B and SS in high school. Coach Stinson spoke about adding Nichols to the roster, "I am excited to bring Kyle into our program. He will add some depth to our infield and I look forward to Kyle pushing our upperclassmen as well as seeing him work at his game to make us better as a program."
Daniel Reyes from Homestead, Florida plans to study Nursing at UMPI. The soon to be Somerset Academy of South Homestead graduate played Outfield, 2B and Pitcher for his team. Reyes showed his excitement in coming up to UMPI to play. "I'm extremely grateful and passionate about this opportunity. I am looking forward to giving my all academically and athletically to the program."
When speaking to Coach Stinson about Reyes, he said, "After talking to Daniel's summer coach I am very excited to add Daniel to the Owls Roster. His experience on the mound will be a great addition to our pitching staff, along with his speed on the bases. I am looking forward to seeing him compete".
