Maine-Presque Isle starter Dylan Worster pitched well, but was the hard luck loser to Newbury College 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.
With the game tied 2-2 in the top of the seventh inning, Worster gave up a single to the leadoff batter Brian Rhone. Newbury played small ball and sacrificed Rhone to second, an Owl infield error moved Newbury runners to first and third with one out. Worster struck out the next batter. With two outs, the Newbury runner on first stole second to bait the throw and Rhone made the jump toward home as well. Both runners were safe and Newbury took the 3-2 lead.
Worster went all nine innings and gave up 2 two earned runs, while striking out 5
Senior Travis Wade got the win for the Nighthawks, giving up just 4 Owl hits in his 7.1 innings and striking out 6. Australian Craig Barnet backed up Wade with securing the Nighthawk win by picking up his 2nd save on the season.
