(BELLEROSE, NY) -- The University of Maine-Presque Isle baseball team fell 13-2 to the Bears of St. Joseph (Brooklyn) College on Friday afternoon. With the loss UMPI sees its record fall to 2-16 on the season.
The Owls looked like they were going to scratch back into the game in the 7th inning after a Carlos Villoria (Jr./Caracas, Venezuela) double scored two and brought UMPI to within 5-2. The Bears however answered with two runs in their half of the 7th and then broke the game open with six runs in the 8th.
A day after Owl pitchers issued 13 free passes in a 26-4 loss to De Sales, three Owl pitchers combined for only 4 walks. Jake Fillebrown (Jr./Stoneham, ME) (0-4) started and pitched into the 8th inning for the Owls giving up 12 hits and 10 runs (7 earned). He struck out 8 in taking the loss.
The road weary Owls struggled in the field again, committing 5 errors. It was the 8th road game in 7 days for UMPI while on their spring break trip. Their week will finish up with a rematch doubleheader with St. Joseph's Saturday, March 31st. First pitches are slated for 12pm and 3:00pm.
