Owls Lose Tight One With Fisher

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's soccer team returned home Sunday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Fisher College at Park Family Field. The Owls battled throughout the match, but two goals from Fisher's Sina-Marie Rosch proved to be the difference. 

Both teams traded opportunities early, with Fisher eventually breaking through in the 32nd minute. Rosch opened the scoring at 31:03, finishing a chance assisted by Sandy Auguste to give Fisher a 1-0 advantage. UMPI goalkeeper Michaela Carney kept the Owls within one goal heading into halftime, making five saves during the opening 45 minutes. Fisher held an 8-1 advantage in shots at the break. The Owls' lone first-half shot came from Chantal Ackley, who put her attempt on target.

Fisher extended its lead in the 64th minute when Rosch found the back of the net for her second goal of the afternoon, giving the visitors a 2-0 advantage. Carney continued to face pressure throughout the second half, making four additional saves. She finished the match with nine saves on 11 shots on goal. UMPI continued to look for an offensive opportunity, but Fisher goalkeeper Audrina Pelton stopped the Owls' only shot on target in the second half. The Owls were unable to find the back of the net as Fisher held on for the 2-0 victory.


Top Performers

In Goal: Michaela Carney made nine saves over 90 minutes for UMPI including some spectacular ones to keep the score at minimal.

UMPI Attack: Chantal Ackley recorded the Owls' lone shot and shot on goal.

The loss drops UMPI to 0-4 on the season. The Owls will have a chance to get back in the win column next Saturday, September 19, when they travel to Johnson, Vermont, to face VTSU-Johnson in a North Atlantic Conference matchup. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
