Owls Fall to Terriers on Homecoming

PRESQUE ISLE, ME

The University of Maine at Presque Isle women's soccer team fell to Thomas College 3-0 Saturday afternoon at Park Family Field. The Terriers scored twice in the first half before adding another goal in the second half to hand the Owls a North Atlantic Conference loss.

How it Happened:

Thomas controlled much of the opening half, outshooting UMPI 10-0 and putting six shots on target. The Terriers broke through in the 27th minute when Kendall Theriault scored at 26:12, assisted by Yaribel Pena, to give Thomas a 1-0 lead. Thomas added another goal just under four minutes later. Riley Smith found the back of the net at 30:10, with Briley Rutledge providing the assist, extending the Terriers' advantage to 2-0. UMPI goalkeeper Michaela Carney kept the Owls within striking distance, making six saves during the opening 45 minutes.

Thomas continued to pressure the UMPI defense after halftime and eventually added to its lead in the 67th minute. Rutledge scored at 66:21, assisted by Phoebe Padgett, making the score 3-0. The Owls generated two shots during the second half, including one on goal, but Thomas goalkeeper Emily Rock made the save to preserve the shutout. Carney finished the match with eight saves over 90 minutes.

UMPI was held to just two shots throughout the match, with only one reaching the target. Abby Doughty recorded UMPI's only shot on goal, while Brianna Osterblom also attempted a shot. Thomas finished with 14 shots, including 11 on target, and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Top Performers

In Goal: Michaela Carney made eight saves for the Owls while playing all 90 minutes.

UMPI Attack: Abby Doughty recorded UMPI's lone shot on goal, while Brianna Osterblom added the team's other shot.

Next Up:

The loss drops UMPI to 1-6-1 overall and 1-2-0 in NAC play. The Owls will look to bounce back on Tuesday, October 6, at 7:00 p.m. when they face the University of Maine at Fort Kent.
