Box Score MYRTLE BEACH, SC
The Owls Softball team got back to action on Tuesday for a makeup to one of Monday's rain-outs. They met up with unbeaten Stevenson University for a second time on the trip, having already played them in game one on Sunday.
How it Happened:
Much like the first time they met up with Stevenson, a frustrating first inning proved fatal for the Owls. Stevenson scored five times in the top of the first to take control of the game early. Sabrina Kauffman singled to start the second, but the Mustangs set them down in order after that. Stevenson added one more in the second to go up 6-0, followed by another flurry of runs in the third, when they scored five more on seven hits.
From there it was mostly academic, as Stevenson's bats stayed red hot throughout the five-inning contest. The Mustangs went on to shut out the Owls 13-0.
At the Plate:
The Owls were held to three hits in their five innings. Zoe Stewart singled in the first inning but was stranded there. Kauffman had the aforementioned single to lead off the second but couldn't advance, and Avery VonKadich singled in the 5th. The Mustangs allowed just four base runners all game with the three hits allowed and just one error, and none of which advanced further than first base, a true credit to the pitching performance from Angelica Gurevich who struck out ten batters in the shutout victory.
In the Circle:
Zoe Stewart started the game for the Owls but was relieved in the first inning after recording one out. Gracelyn Walsh tossed the rest of the way, going 3.2 innings, allowing 10 earned runs on 85 pitches, while striking out one batter.
Next Up:
The Owls drop to 1-4 on this young season and still have a lot of Softball to play in Myrtle Beach. They will play three doubleheaders in the next three days, against five different schools. Tomorrow, March 19th at 9 a.m. they will face UMass-Boston, followed by the University of Mt. Saint Vincent at 11 a.m.
