LYNDONVILLE, VERMONT:
The University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Volleyball team continued their great weekend, winning both ends of a doubleheader, and going 4-0 on the weekend.
Game 1 UMPI (3-0): 25-8, 25-11, 25-7
The Owls jumped out to a great start, scoring the first five, then 7 og the next 10 to take a stranglehold on the first set, eventually winning 25-8. The second set, they began even better, scoring the first seven, and even seeing a lead of 15-3. Their dominance continued into the third set, where they once again led at one point 15-3, never really giving Lyndon an opportunity to claw back into it.
Top Performers:
Faith Graham was a powerhouse at the net, leading the attack with 7 kills. Her efforts were well-supported by
Alexis Engel, who contributed 6 kills and was a defensive rock with a team-high 12 digs.
Brooklynn Siebrasse also made a significant impact, adding 4 kills and dominating from the service line with 5 aces.
The serving game was strong across the board, with
Alexis Engel adding 4 aces and
Mia Gutierrez contributing another 4.
Mia Gutierrez also played a crucial role in the back row, tallying 6 digs.
On the defensive front,
Faith Graham and
Evelyn Elijah each recorded a block, demonstrating their ability to thwart the opposition's attacks. In the setting department,
Rylie Kolkow orchestrated the offense with a stellar 18 assists, while
Kylee Blazick and
Myah Bragdon added depth with 2 and 1 assists respectively.
Game 2: UMPI (3-0) 25-17, 25-13, 25-12
The Owls weren't quite as dominant in this game, as Lyndon tested them in all three sets, however UMPI has the mark of great team, never letting a comeback bid spiral into fruition, as they went undefeated on the day in sets. In the first set, they trailed for the only time all day 11-9, but fired off 6 points in a row shortly thereafter. In set 2, they kept the Hornets at arm's length, never letting them into it. Finally in set 3, the Owls continued the theme, never trailing and putting the Hornets away in straight sets.
Top Performers:
Faith Graham was the offensive force, smashing an impressive 11 kills to lead the team.
Alexis Engel and
Mia Gutierrez added depth to the attack with 5 and 3 kills, respectively.
The serving game was exceptional, with
Mia Gutierrez and
Rylie Kolkow each notching 5 aces, while
Alexis Engel contributed 4 aces of her own. This aggressive serving put significant pressure on Lyndon throughout the match.
Defensively,
Evelyn Elijah was a key player at the net, recording 2 blocks and helping to thwart the opponent's attacks. In the setting department,
Rylie Kolkow was instrumental, dishing out 20 assists and facilitating smooth offensive transitions.
Alexis Engel and
Mia Gutierrez added to the setting efforts with 3 and 2 assists, respectively.
On the defensive end,
Kylee Blazick was a standout with 12 digs, providing a solid foundation in the back row.
Alexis Engel and
Mia Gutierrez also contributed with 7 digs each.
The Owls improve to 4-2 on the year and are in great position, building into conference play. But first, they will host non-conference rival U-Maine Fort Kent this Friday night beginning at 5pm.
