Billy Manley Named New UMPI Head Softball Coach

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – Executive Director of Athletics & Recreation, Dan Kane, is happy to announce the hiring of Billy Manley as the University of Maine at Presque Isle's Head Softball Coach and Retention Coordinator.

"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Manley to our outstanding athletic staff at the University of Maine at Presque Isle.  His diverse experience in both playing and coaching multiple sports at the collegiate level brings a unique perspective to our program.  Throughout the interview process, his commitment to enhancing the student-athlete experience for our softball team and his dedication to student retention in his role as Retention Coordinator truly stood out."

Manley comes from an extensive background in NCAA Athletics. He began as a football player at DI Institution, Marist College, before transferring to Castleton State College to play baseball where he graduated in 2011. He was a standout, all-conference player there, slashing .355 during his junior and senior seasons and a key part of the 2010 team that won the North Atlantic Conference.

Upon graduation, Manley became an assistant coach for Castleton's softball team and was on staff there for two years. From there, Manley moved back to his sport of baseball to assist at Dean College, specializing in hitting and offense while he was there. Manley did two separate two-year stints at Dean. Most recently, he assisted baseball at Pfeiffer University in North Carolina where he specialized in hitting and catching.

Billy Manley has made a career out of coaching intercollegiate athletics and is very excited for his first head-coaching gig here at UMPI. "It's really a dream come true. I've been working my whole life for this, and I plan to make the most of this opportunity," Manley said.

The Owls softball program and UMPI community as a whole welcome Billy Manley.
