Presque Isle, ME - The University of Maine at Presque Isle is excited to announce the addition of Emelia Voisine to its women's soccer program. Emelia, a standout player from Fort Kent Community High School in Fort Kent, Maine, joins UMPI with an impressive soccer resume and a commitment to excellence both on and off the field.
During her time at Fort Kent Community High School, Emelia distinguished herself as a talented goalkeeper, playing three years on varsity and achieving an impressive 14 shutouts in a single season. Despite facing challenges, including allowing the most goals in a game (2), Emelia's dedication and skill were evident throughout her high school career.
Emelia's achievements on the field have not gone unnoticed. She was awarded the Butch Shaw Award in the 2023 season and served as senior team captain, leading her team to a remarkable 16-2-0 record in the 2023 season. Emelia's leadership was particularly evident in the 2023 state final game, where her team fought hard through two rounds of overtimes and two rounds of penalty kicks, ultimately falling short but showcasing their resilience and determination.
Off the field, Emelia is known for her commitment to academic excellence. She intends to major in Accounting at UMPI, bringing her dedication and work ethic to her studies as well as her athletic pursuits.
"I'm excited to see what this new chapter brings to me!" Emelia said of her decision to join UMPI's soccer program, reflecting her enthusiasm for the future.
Coach Doug Cyr, Emelia's high school coach, praised her as a coach's player, noting her growth as a player and leader. "Her continued growth as a player and leader over the last couple of years have allowed her to be successful on and off the field," Coach Cyr said.
The UMPI coaching staff, led by Coach John Ala, is equally excited to welcome Emelia to the team. "Mia has had an outstanding high school career and played a major role in her team's success. We are very excited to add her to our program and look forward to her future accomplishments!" Coach Ala stated.
