Owls Fall in Season Opener

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Myrtle Beach, SC – The Owls fall to the FDU-Florham Devils 3-8 in their second game of the season. The team fell to Thiel College 1-11 in the season opener, box score and full recap to come shortly.

Game 1 (11-1 – Tomcats):

Game 2 (8-3 – Devils):

How it happened:
A few batters on each team were able to get on early, although no one scored in the first two innings. The Devils were able to put three on the board in the third inning off two hits and a couple of walks. The Owls were able to put a run on the board in the fourth on a fielder's choice. FDU hit in five more runs in the top of the sixth inning to boost their lead. A short-sided comeback for UMPI gave them two more runs off an RBI single by first year Sabrina Koffman.

On the mound:
Gracelyn Walsh pitched for the Owls for the duration of the game. The Sophomore struck out two batters and allowed eight earned runs. Cornog, for the Devils, earned the win on the mound with five strikeouts in her five innings pitched.

At the plate:
Walsh finished the game with two hits on her three at bats. Zoe Stewart and Reagan Calvin each had two hits on the game as the Owls finished with nine hits as a team. Karis Dankert and rookie Sabrina Kauffman each earned an RBI on the game.
 
Next up: Owls will have two more games vs U. of Minn. Morris and Muhlenburg College.
