Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

UMPI Rights The Ship, Draw With Fisher

MALDEN, MA

After a red-hot start to the year, the UMPI Women's Soccer Team has been in relative cruise control for the last few games, going up against some tough teams, and struggling to keep them out of the net. On Sunday, the Owls were able to right the ship against Fisher College. UMPI threatened early with two shots from Taylor Marston in the first four minutes. The game turned physical in a hurry with 11 foul calls before the first goal occurred in the 27th minute. Alexis Ireland scored her third goal of the year for the Owls, with an assist from Kayla MacLean. UMPI drew the first blood and led 1-0. The lead was rather short lived however, as Fisher tied it up at 1 before the break.

The second half was a stalemate, with more total shots but fewer goals. It was a very 50/50 battle, as Fisher narrowly outshot UMPI 12-11 on the day, while UMPI won the corner kick battle 4-3. The game would stay tied until the final buzzer ending in a 1-1 draw.

For the Owls, Alexis Ireland had five shots on goal, and Taylor Marston had three. Madelynn Morrow had a pair of shots while Monica McLaughlin had one.

In goal for the Owls, Mia Voisine had three saves in the first half, while Michaela Carney made her collegiate debut as a goalkeeper in the second half, making five saves.

The Owls will look to take this momentum into Senior Day on Thursday when they host University of Maine at Augusta. The women's game is set to kick-off at Park Family Field at 3:30pm.
