Owls Women’s Soccer Conclude 2024 Campaign

WATERVILLE, ME

UMPI Women's Soccer took to the road for the final game of the 2024 season against Thomas College. It was a battle last time they matched up. In Presque Isle, Thomas led by two goals entering the final ten minute before UMPI came storming back to tie it at 2-2. Thomas had the last laugh however, scoring the game winner with 2 minutes to go. In the regular season finale for both of these teams, it remained evenly matched in the scorebook, just not on the scoreboard.

Thomas scored first in the 13th minute to make it 1-0, and the score would stay like that for a long time. The Owls threatened throughout, out shooting Thomas 10-6 in the first half but with zero goals to show for it. In the second half, Thomas broke the stalemate by scoring again in the 74th minute, before delivering the knockout punch in the 88th minute to take the game 3-0.

The Owls had 16 total shots on the game while Thomas had 18. Despite this even shot differential, Thomas's ability to capitalize on their opportunities wrote the story in this one. Madelyn Morrow fired up six shots to pace UMPI's offense. Alexis Ireland also had four. Taylor Marston had two shots—both of which were on target, while Camryn Ala and Michaela Carney also had two total shots.

The Owls mark of 16 shots was their highest total since September 8th, and easily their highest total without a goal on the season.

Mia Voisine made 10 saves in net and played the first 87 minutes in goal. At the end of the game, the Owls put Senior Alexis Ireland in goal for her final minutes of her collegiate career. It was also special as her sister, Emilee, also a senior, and normally a goalkeeper for Thomas, played striker for the Terriers as the two reversed roles

Along with Ireland, three others their final minutes in an Owls uniform: Madison Miller, Amelia Ivey, and Monica McLaughlin. UMPI thanks them for their outstanding careers and dedication to their program over the last few years.

The Owls finish the season at 3-9-2. A season that showed a dramatic improvement from last season was full of ups and downs. The highlight is unequivocally their 1-0 homecoming victory over the defending NAC champion Maine Maritime Academy Mariners.
