Women's Soccer Falls Short vs the Beavers

PRESQUE ISLE, MAINE – The Owls women's soccer team hosted their home opener vs fellow U-Maine System opponent, the University of Maine at Farmington in a non-conference match up. The Owls fell to the Beavers of UMF 4-2 bringing them to a 0-2-0 record as the Beavers advance to 1-1-1 on the season.

The Beavers started it off early in the 16th minute, scoring a goal off consecutive attacks. Although just one minute after, Alexis Ireland answered with a monster goal from long range, and tying the game with an unassisted goal. UMF continued their attacks, later scoring their second goal in the 28th minute. With the Beavers on the attack, the Owls continued to pressure the ball and create opportunities in the counterattack. These attacks paid off in the 44th minute, just before the half, when first year Taylor Martson hit a beautiful pass from nearly half field to set up a goal by Kourtney West.

In the second half the trend would continue as the Beavers were on the attack, scoring two goals early in the second half. The Owls continued to threaten the goal with their counterattacks, although unable to put one in the back of the net.

The Owls finished the game with 12 shots, seven on goal compared to the Beavers 27 shots and 17 on goal. Marissa Havey spent most of the game in goal for the Owls finishing the game with ten saves, while Maggee Currie was in goal for just under 20 minutes and finished with three saves.

Next Up: The owls will head to Waterville to take on Thomas College in a non-conference match up this weekend.
