Owls Split with Beavers in NAC Play

WATERVILLE, MAINE – The Owls softball team faced off against the Beavers of U-Maine at Farmington in another North Atlantic Conference doubleheader. The teams would split the doubleheader as the Beavers would take the first game 2-8 and the Owls would bounce back with a 13-4 victory to bring them to a 5-4 NAC record.

Game 1: 2-8 Beavers

It was all UMF early in the game as they started it off in the second with a solo homer to give them the first run of the game. Scoring two more runs in the third off a double and another two runs in the following two innings to give them a 5-0 lead. The Owls would then score their first run of the game in the fifth off an RBI single from Dalaney Anfinson and Olivia Gray to give the Owls two runs. Although the short rally by the Owls was not enough as the Beavers scored three more runs in the final two innings.

Hailey Saylor pitched for the Owls, recording three strikeouts and allowing six earned runs and 14 total hits. The Owls recorded nine hits on the game, leaving six batters on base.

Game 2: 13-4 Owls

In game two it was all UMPI, starting it off in the first, Gracelyn Walsh and Zoe Stewart each hit in a run while Hailey Saylor's at bat would result in an error for the Beavers and run scored. To finish off the Owls five-run first was Olivia Gray's 2-RBI double. The Owls did not stop there as they continued their rally with another five run inning in the second.

The Beavers would start their rally in the third to attempt the comeback with a four run inning. Although it was not enough as Zoe Stewart would hit a walk off three run homer in the bottom of the fifth to give the Owls a 13-4 win.

Walsh earns the win on the mound for the Owls, allowing just seven hits and four earned runs. The team finished the game with 11 combined hits and leaving just six batters on.
