Owls Extend Winning Streak to Five After Sweep vs Lynx

LEXINGTON, MA – The UMPI softball team coasted in the first game but outlasted the slugfest in the second game with Lesley University Sunday at Minutemen Tech. The Owls won the first game 18-2, while holding off the Lynx, 12-11, in the second game. UMPI is now on a five-game win streak and improved to 5-10. Lesley University falls to 1-17.

The Owls jumped out to a 10-0 lead after six innings, before the Lynx scored their runs in the final frame. Hailey Saylor (Port Jefferson Station, NY), Gracelyn Walsh (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB, Canada), Rachel Billings (Lehi, UT), and Zoe Stewart (Pleasant Grove, PEI - Canada) each had three hits for the Owls. Walsh (4 RBIs), Billings (3 RBIs, triple), and Stewart (2 RBIs) knocked home half of UMPI's total runs. 

Emma McNally (Patten, ME), Delaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL), Zoe Aylward-Frank (Kennebunk, ME), Emily Blauvelt (Madison, ME), and Olivia Gray (Southwest Harbor, ME) all had two hits for the Owls. McNally (3 RBIs) and Gray (2 RBIs) contributed to the win. 

Saylor picked up the win for the Owls as she went the distance.  Saylor struck out six while walking three. Emma Hodgkins (Raymond, NH) went 6 ? innings for the Lynx, striking out eight batters. Holly Swinamer (Franklin, MA) pitched the final two outs.

In game two, UMPI jumped out to a 4-0 lead after two innings, before the Lynx came back with three runs in the bottom of the third. The Owls took control of the game in the middle three frames, outscoring their hosts 8-5 to take a 12-8 advantage going into the seventh. Lesley University made it interesting with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. But that was the closest they were going to get. 

Walsh led the Owls' attack with four hits. Saylor had three hits while Anfinson, Aylward-Frank, and Gray each had a pair. One of Aylward-Frank's hits was a home run. Walsh captured the complete game victory, striking out six. Sophia Santos (Canton, MA) took the loss as she struck out 10 also going the distance.

The Owls will travel to Manchester, NH to play New England College on Monday morning starting at 11 am.
