Owls Fall to Beavers

Farmington, ME – The Owls softball team traveled to Farmington to take on the Beavers of UMF in a North Atlantic Conference double header. UMF would pull off the sweep taking game one 6-5 in a back-and-forth game and then took game two 5-0. UMF improves to 4-18 overall and 3-3 within conference play. UMPI falls to 3-23 overall and 2-5 in the NAC.

 

Game 1 (6-5 – Beavers):

How it happened:

UMF would jump out to an early 3-0 lead after two innings. The Owls would get on the scoreboard scoring one run in the top of the third. Hailey Kelly started off the inning with a single and advanced to second on a wild pitch and to third on an error. With runners on first and third the Beavers would throw out the Owls attempting to steal second, however, Kelly would score on the throw to second. UMF would answer with another run in the bottom of the third to extend their lead to 4-1.  In the top of the 4th the Owls would come flying back scoring three runs on three hits and two UMF errors to tie the game at 4-4. Highlighting the inning was a 2 RBI single to centerfield by Dalaney Anfinson scoring Jordan Hansen and Reagen Calvin. The Beavers would regain the lead scoring one run in the bottom of the fifth. Reigning NAC Player of the Year Jordan Hansen would answer for the Owls in the top of the 6th hitting a solo home run bringing the score to 5-5. However, UMF would answer in the bottom of the inning scoring on a fielder's choice. The Beavers would hold the Owls to one hit in the top of the 7th and play errorless ball as they held on to the 6-5 win.

On the mound:

Jordan Hansen gave up six runs on seven hits while striking out seven Beavers. Carleigh Schievink pitched five innings for UMF while Maddie Souza came in in relief to pick up the win.

At the plate:

Zoe Aylward-Frank led the way at the plate for the Owls with three hits and one run scored. Hansen recorded two hits, two runs, and a RBI.

 

Game 2 (5-0 – Owls):

How it happened:

The Beavers would score one run in the third and four runs in the 5th. UMF recorded eight hits and committed two errors. The Owls were only able to record one hit and committed one error.  Reagan Calvin picked up the lone hit for UMPI.

The Owls will take on the Beavers in another pair of doubleheaders vs UMF tomorrow.
