Owls Earns First Win of the Year

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls Women's Soccer team won their home opener, giving them their first win of the year. The Owls won in big fashion vs the Fisher College Falcons, 5-1. This bring the Owls to 1-2 on the season as they still sit 0-1 in the North Atlantic Conference.

The Owls came out of the gate in full control with some early shot attempts, and putting one in the back of the net just under nine minutes into the game. Hannah Rossignol (Madawaska, ME) scored the Owls first goal of the game, assisted by Alexis Ireland (Howland, ME). Just over ten game minutes later Rossignol returned the favor, giving Ireland the assist in her first goal of the year at the 20-minute mark. The Owls now with a 2-0 lead, continued to control the game and shifting the Falcons defense. Just before the half, Hannah Rossignol scored her second goal of the game, this time assisted by Rhylee Kinney (Presque Isle, ME). The Owls going into halftime with a 3-0 lead, with 16 shot attempts in just the first half.

To start the second half the Owls continued to control the game, and it was none other than Hannah Rossignol who extended the lead to four. Rossignol with her third goal of the game, assisted again by Ireland, giving the Owls a 4-0 lead at the 63-minute mark. Zhoreen Malik (Kenya, Nairobi) scored the Owls final goal at the 81-minute mark, Taylor Shute (Vassalboro, ME) with the assist. The Falcons avoided the shut out with a late game goal, scoring in the 88th minute.

Rossignol leading the Owls with her three goal, on only five shot attempts, all of which were on goal. Malik put up six shot attempts, while Shute added five more. Ireland finished the game with three shots, all of which were on goal to go along with her one goal and two assists. The Owls totaled 27 shot attempts and 18 of which were on goal. Savannah Rodriguez (Presque Isle, ME) started in goal for the Owls finishing the first half with three saves, while Sage Dubay (Caribou, ME) finished off the second half with three saves. The Owls defense and control on offense held the Falcons to only ten shot attempts and only eight of which were on goal.
