Owls Impressive Season Comes to an End

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls softball team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Thomas College in a playoff tiebreaker for the right to advance to the East Conference Final. Thomas came away with a 5-3 victory, and will face Husson University in the East Championship.

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) earned the start on the mound for UMPI, pitching 5.1 innings and letting up five earned runs and 11 hits. Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) then finished the game for the Owls, letting up only one hit. Claudia Migiliaccio started for the Terriers while Kelsey Currier finished the game and earned the win.

The Terriers started it off with an RBI single in the second, scoring one run. Another came in the third, giving them a two run lead. The Owls answered back, taking the lead. A double by Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) brought in one run. Senior Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) followed with her first career home run, bringing in two more runs and giving the Owls a 3-2 lead.

The Terriers answered immediately with a two-RBI single in the fourth, giving them back the lead. Another run in the fifth extended their lead to two runs. The Owls offense was unable to produce late as the Terriers held on to the lead.
