Owls Celebrate Senior Day in Last Regular Season Game

Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls softball team hosted their second round of doubleheaders vs North Atlantic Conference opponent Thomas College. The Terriers took both games, winning the first one 13-6 and 10-1. The Owls celebrated their senior's final regular season game, as the Owls graduate six seniors. While senior Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) hit her 100th career hit.

Game 1

Senior Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) started the game for the Owls on the mound. Pitching four innings and letting up nine earned runs. Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) pitched the remainder of the game, pitching three innings and gave up two earned runs. Claudia Migliaccio pitch the complete game for the Terriers and letting up 11 hits and five earned runs.

An early start for both teams as the Terriers struck first with a two-run first inning odd a sacrifice fly and a solo homerun. Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) answered in the first with a two RBI single, tying the game back at two. More runs came in the third inning while the Terriers had two players hit RBI singles to give them a two-run lead. Terry then answered with a homerun to cut the lead to one.

The Terriers then scored three more runs in the fourth inning to extend their lead to four. Following with three more runs in the fifth inning. Strout then hit her 100th hit, a double, later scored off a Terrier error. Another homer for the Terriers in the sixth was followed by a late game comeback for UMPI. Reagle hit an RBI single, which Strout also singled to give the Owls a two run sixth. This run was not enough as the Terriers added another run in the seventh, and the Owls were unable to make a comeback.

Game 2

Abby Hooper started the game for the Owls, pitching through the first couple of batters, letting up three earned runs. Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) then pitched 4.1 innings letting up five earned runs and 12 hits. Kelsey Currier pitched the complete game and finishing with eight.

The Terriers once again came out strong to start the game, hitting two home runs with no outs. Then a two run homer followed. Their fifth and final run of the first was off a single. The Owls had a one-run answer in the first scoring off a single by Roni Shaw (Payette, ID). It was all Terriers from there on with one run in the second, fourth and fifth. Another two runs came in the sixth inning.
