Softball Wins Big Time vs Johnson 10-2, 12-1

Johnson, VT – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Softball team took two wins from North Atlantic Conference opponent Norther Vermont University – Johnson. The Owls won both games in five innings, winning 10-2 in game one and 12-1 in game two.

Game 1

10-2, UMPI

Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) earned her first win for the Owls on the mound, pitching all five innings ending the game with seven strikeouts. Riitano gave up only four hits and two earned runs on the game. Nicole Mooney pitched for the Badgers, as the Owls got 14 hits and ten earned runs off of her.

The Owls started the game with a run in the first inning off a single by Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA), bringing Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) home for the Owls first run of the game. Johnson answered right back with a run in the bottom of the first to tie the game. It wasn't until the third that the Owls were able to bring in another run. It was Terry again with an RBI single, this time bringing Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) scored with some aggressive base running. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) added another run in the fourth with a single bringing Anaiz Diaiz (Tampa, FL) home.

It was a big fifth inning for the Owls, bringing home seven runs before ending the game in the bottom of the fifth. Karis Dankert (Dover Foxcroft, ME) hit a two RBI single to start the Owls big inning. Reagle followed with an RBI single herself. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) then followed with a two RBI triple giving the Owls an 8-1 lead. Not done yet, Strout immediately followed with an RBI single, scoring Hansen. Strout found her way to third as Terry yet again earned an RBI, bringing Strout home with a fielder's choice.

Strout finished game one going four for four from the plate with an RBI and scoring three runs. Terry finished the game with two hits and three RBIs.

Game 2

12-1, UMPI

Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) pitched the win for the Owls, earning her third win of the year on the mound. Pitching all five inning, earning five strikeouts and only allowing one hit and one earned run. Nicole Mooney pitched in game two as well, as the Owls finished the game with 14 hits and 11 earned runs. As well as two homeruns, both hit by Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE), now with three homers on the year.

The Badgers started the game with a run in the first inning, giving them their first lead of the day. With the Owls down one in the second, and Karis Dankert (Dover Foxcroft, ME) on second base, Hansen hit her second homerun on the year, giving the Owls the lead. UMPI followed with a three run third inning. Madison Exferd (La Grande, OR) brought Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) home with a SAC Fly. Anaiz Diaiz (Tampa, FL) then singled bringing in another run, and eventually Diaz scored from third on a passed ball by the Badgers.

Hansen was not done as she led off the fourth inning with another Homer. Sparking the Owls offense, Terry then grounded out to score Delanie Strout (Greene, ME). Exferd then singled to bring in Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) home for another run. Dankert then hit an RBI single to bring Roni Shaw (Payette, ID) home. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) followed with a single adding another run, as Hansen followed with a bases loaded walk adding another run. Terry the added another run in the fifth inning off an error from Johnson.
