Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

Bangor, ME – The UMPI Owls Softball team traveled to Bangor, Maine to play in their first games of the year. The doubleheader was a non-conference match up against Husson University. The first game finished with a score of 11-3 while the second game ended 10-4 in the Eagles favor, despite a hot start for the Owls.

Game 1

11-3, Husson

The first match up started with a defensive battle, with Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) on the mound for the Owls and Husson's Jen Jones started for them on the mound. Reagle pitched for the first four innings letting up only one earned run. Jordan Hansen (Phillips, NE) was the next on the mound with two earned runs in her one inning pitched. Olivia Riitano (Abbot, ME) finished the final inning for the Owls.

With a slow start for both teams offensively, the score through three innings was still 0-0. The Eagles put up a five runs off two singles, each bringing in a run, and an error that led to the other three runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Owls answered immediately with three runs, a double by senior Sarah Duncklee (Kearny, AZ) brought in Hansen and Reagle. This led to fellow senior Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) to bring Duncklee home off a single up the middle, all with two outs on the board. The Owls rally was not enough, as the Eagle would put up six more runs in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away.

Terry finished the game with two hits and an RBI while Duncklee finished with one hit and two RBI's. The Owls finished the game with five errors in the game.

Game 2

10-4, Husson

The second game started in a very different fashion that game one, with a high scoring back and forth early in the game. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (Seattle, WA) was next on the mound, also pitched two innings, finishing with five earned runs. Sydney Ames of Husson earned the win after pitching five innings before the game was called due to darkness.

The Owls came out hot in game two scoring four runs in the top of the first inning.  Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) started the Owls off with a double that brought Reagle home, who got on with a single. Sarah Duncklee (Kearny, AZ) followed yet again with a single to bring Terry home. First year Dalaney Anfinson (Green Cove Springs, FL) singled in her first college at bat to bring Duncklee home. Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL) then hit a single to third, which scored Roni Shaw (Payette, ID), who got on with a single. This brought the game to 4-0 going into the bottom of the first.

The Eagles answered back immediately with a quick four runs for them to tie the game. Following a short second with no runs, the Eagles continued their hot offense in the following innings bringing their lead to six. The Owls finished game two with eight hits on the game.
