UMPI Splits Doubleheader with UMF

Lewiston, ME - After dropping a tough 1st game of a doubleheader vs. UMaine-Farmington 5 to 4, the UMPI Owls came right back in Game #2 and turned the tables on the Beavers with their own 5 to 4 victory and a North Atlantic Conference split in two games played in Lewiston. 

The Owls (11-11) found themselves trailing 3 to 0 to UMF (10-14) going into the top of the 4th inning before coming up with a big 4 run frame to take the lead. Marissa Valdivia Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) would score the 1st UMPI run on a throwing error before Anaiz Diaz (So. Tampa, FL) singled to right center to bring in Delanie Strout (Jr. Greene, ME) and a 2 to 0 ME-Presque Isle lead. Jordan Hansen (Fr. Phillips, NE) would follow 2 batters later with a single to leftfield to plate Diaz. Sarah Dunclee (Jr. Kearny, AZ) would slap a RBI single up the middle to score Hansen and the Owls found themselves with a 4 to 3 lead. 

UMPI would score an important run in the top of the 7th as Sarah Duncklee raced across the plate when Reagle reached 1st base on an infield error. UMF would score a run in the bottom of the 7th inning but the Owls would close the door and get the 5 to 4 victory.

Brookelynn Garcia (So. Torrance, CA) came on in relief of Marissa Valdivia Reagle on the mound to get the pitching win, going 3.2 innings, allowing 1 run on 5 hits while walking 2 and striking out 4 UMF hitters. Kailyn Hill took the loss on the mound for the Beavers going the full 7 innings. 

Mel Terry (So. Moreno Valley, CA), Duncklee and Diaz each had 2 hits apiece for UMPI and Roni Shaw (So. Payette, ID) added a double. Makayla Wilson, Bailey Robbins, kayleigh Oberg and Broghan Gagnon each had 2 hits for UMF. Wilson homered for Me-Farmington.

 

Game #1: In the opener, UMaine-Farmington rallied in the bottom of the 6th inning to score 3 runs and take a 5 to 4 win over the Owls. Makayla Wilson tripled to deep left center scoring Kailyn Hill. Wilson would later score on an infield groundout and then Leah Stevens would come up with what would be the game winner on a RBI single to rightfield for the Beavers.

UMPI would grab the early lead in the 1st inning on a RBI double by Mel Terry scoring Sarah Duncklee. In the 2nd, Anaiz Diaz connected for a RBI single to rightfield bringing Delanie Strout across the plate and a 2 to 0 Owls advantage. Me-Presque Isle would go up 3 to 0 in the top of the 3rd inning when Mel Terry singled up the middle scoring Duncklee.

UMF would get single runs in both the 3rd and 4th innings before their big 6th inning.

Brookelynn Garcia pitched the first 4 innings for UMPI and Savannh Borland (0-2) came in for the 5th and 6th. Brianna McGrath (8-5) got the win on the mound for UMF going the full 7 innnings.

Melanee Terry went 3 for 3 at the plate for the Owls with 2 doubles and Sarah Duncklee went 2 for 3 with a double. Makayla Wilson and Kailyn Hill each had 2 hits for the Beavers.

 

Next up: The Owls will play a doubleheader at Husson University on Wednesday April 24th at 3:oo PM and 5:00 PM.
