Owls Fall to Thomas College in Doubleheader

Waterville, ME - The University of Maine-Presque Isle Softball Team faced off against Thomas College Sunday evening in a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader played at Colby College in Waterville.

In the opening game, Thomas College scored 1 run in the 1st inning on a RBI single from Sydney LeBourveau. The Terriers would tack on 3 runs (2 unearned) in the bottom of the 2nd inning to go up 4 to 0. The Owls  offense would bounce right back in the top of the 3rd inning, scoring 4 runs to tie the game up. A Jordan Hansen (Fr. Phillips, NE) RBI single would score Delanie Strout (Jr. Greene, ME) and advance Jordi Legassie to 3rd base. Legassie (Sr. Presque Isle, ME) would then cross the plate on a passed ball. Mel Terry (So. Moreno Valley, CA) came to the plate and stroked a RBI single to leftfield scoring Hansen. Sarah Duncklee would cross the plate for UMPI's 4th run on a double steal.

In the bottom of the 5th the Terriers would put together a big inning offensively, scoring 5 runs to take a 9 to 5 lead over Me-Presque Isle. Sydney LeBourveau would have a key hit in the inning, knocking in 2 runs with a double to the gap in left-center.

Marissa Valdivia Reagle (So. Seattle, WA) started on the mound for UMPI pitching 5 innings, allowing 9 runs (3 earned runs) on 11 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 3. Savannah Borland (Fr. Brownsville, TX) pitched 1 inning in relief allowing no runs on 2 hits.

Kaitlyn Coulter went all 7 innings for Thomas College allowing 4 runs on 5 hits, walking 1 and striking out 2. The Terriers outhit the Owls 13 to 5 on the game.

 

 

Game #2: Thomas College pitcher Kelsey Currier threw a 5 inning no-hitter in the nightcap as the Terriers (12-8) earned the doubleheader sweep with an 8 to 0 victory over the Owls (8-10). The Terriers pitcher walked 1 batter and struck out 5.

Thomas struck for 2 runs in the bottom of the 1st inning on a RBI double by Bailey Dunphy to left center and a run-scoring single by Sydney LeBourveau. LeBourveau would continue her hot hitting in the 3rd inning with another RBI single to give the Terriers a 3 to 0 lead.

Brookelynn Garcia (So. Torrance, CA) took the loss on the mound for UMPI hurling 5 innings, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits, walking 1 and striking out 3.

Next up: The Owls will travel to SUNY Canton for a doubleheader on Saturday April 20th.
