Dartmouth, MA -

The men's track and field contingent demonstrated more depth with 12 athletes participating in the U-Mass Dartmouth Corsairs Classic on Saturday.  In a field of 25 institutions the Owls improved upon many personal performances and established new ones in events not previously contested.  Bridgewater State University won the meet with 141 points and was followed by Westfield State University (109), Eastern Connecticut State University (108), U-Mass Dartmouth (92), and Worcester State University (88). 

Will Griffiths (Port St. Lucie, FL) ran a strong 100m/200m double in laying down times of 12.17  and 24.77, respectively, as did Zach Boyle (Brunswick, ME) at 12.62.  The three better performances were turned in by Boyle in the javelin, Andrew Hunt in the 3000m steeplechase, and Connor Hrynuk (Boonville, NY) in the 1500m.    Boyle's 49.41m/162-01 throw bettered his personal best by more than 10 feet and his UMPI mark by over 15.  Hunt lowered his steeplechase record by 24 seconds to 11:14.74. Hrynuk's 4:48.58 is now the new UMPI mark in the 1500m.  Other personal best marks were set by Sam Carpenter (shot), Allen Stanback (shot), and Boyle (long jump).

Under much better conditions than those encountered the previous week, comprehensive individual results for the meet were:

Devon Maynard (Perham, ME): 800m – 2:26.29

Matthew Payan (Auburn,NH): 400m – 59.05; discus – 22.26m/73-00

Connor Hrynuk (Boonville, NY):  1500m – 4:48.58; 800m – 2:22.10

Kyle Davis (Addison, ME): 800m – 2:38.38; 1500m – 5:02.84; 2:28.38

Andrew Hunt (Peterborough, NH): 3000m steeple – 11:14.74 (*school record); 400m – 1:02.66

Zach Boyle (Brunswick, ME): 100m – 12.62; long jump – 5.17m/18-11.25; javelin – 49.41m/162-01 (*school record, 4 team points)

Sam Carpenter (New Bedford, MA): shot – 9.55m/30-04; discus – 23.58m/77-04

Frank Kelly (Mapleton, ME):  discus – 22.69m/74-05; javelin – 26.10m/85-07

Paul Kaplan (Embden, ME): 400m – 1:00.15; discus – 28.17m/92-05

Will Griffiths (Post St. Lucie, FL):  100m -12.17 ; 200m – 24.77

Tyler Beach (Kennetcook, NS): javelin – 39.28m/128-10

An extended weekend is next up for the Owls as they travel to Regis College for a Friday meet followed by competing at Bowdoin College on Saturday.
