Owls Blow Past Hornets

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 | Box Score 3 | Box Score 4

Milford, NH – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls push their winning streak to nine after a doubleheader sweep vs. the Lyndon State Hornets.  Winning big in both, 16-0 and 21-1, in yesterday evening's games.

The Owls defense was huge in game one as Sara Packard (St. Albans, ME) earned the win on the mound in the five-inning game.  Packard struck out ten of the 16 batters she faced, allowing only three hits, and only one walk.  After a run in the first inning by a Hornets error, the Owls took control with a 12 run rally in the third.

Three singles by Anaiz Diaz (Tampa, FL), Brianna Losee (Pittsfield, ME) and Marissa Reagle (Seattle, WA), started the rally, as they each brought in two runs. Emily Page (Lincoln, ME) and Hailey Davenport (Chicago, IL) hit back-to-back doubles to bring in a run each. The remaining three runs came off a couple of errors and a SAC fly, giving the Owls a 13-0 lead.

UMPI extended their lead with three more runs in the fifth, Diaz double and Nicole Marucci (Naples, ME) single, before Brookelynn Garcia (Torrance, CA) ended the game on the mound.

The Owls stayed hot in game two with nine runs in the first.  Diaz, Jordi Legassie (Presque Isle, ME) and Page each singled bringing in four runs. Melanee Terry (Moreno Valley, CA) doubled in another run, while a couple more runs came off fielder's choices.

Page doubled in the third to bring in two runs.  Daiz followed with a RBI single, and Packard brought two more runs in with a double.  A SAC fly and a fielder's choice tacked on two more runs for the Owls in the fourth.  The Hornets ended their scoring drought after Hannah Choiniere tripled, and was later sent home off a fielder's choice.

Another big scoring run came in the fifth to put an exclamation on the day.  Delanie Strout (Greene, ME) and Jackie Peers (Limestone, ME) each hit an RBI single, Strout was walked home, and Alyssa Merone (Staten Island, NY) hit a two RBI single to bring in the last run of the evening.

The Owls take on Lyndon State again tomorrow in another doubleheader, game are at 10:00 AM and Noon.
