OWLS SPLIT WITH FARMINGTON

| Box Score 2

ORONO, Maine --  The University of Maine-Presque Isle softball squad got their first win of the season by splitting a doubleheader with the University of Maine-Farmington.  The Beavers won game one 6-1, and the Owls were victorious in game two, 8-3.

In game one, Courtney Fowler mowed down the Owls after the Beavers used several Owl miscues to score four unearned runs in the bottom of the first.  Fowler would allow only one hit and strike out 6 in her 5 innings of work.

Carly Bell had the lone hit for Presque Isle, while Owl ace Sara Packard took the hard-luck loss in game one.

In game two, the Owls came out on fire, touching the Beavers for 3 runs in the top of the first.  Jessica Campbell reached first on a solid comebacker to the pitcher, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on an errant throw off of a Shannon Brown grounder to third. With Brown on first, Katie Patenaude singled to left and Packard would load the bases when Beavers pitcher Kristen Manzo hit her with a pitch. Whitney Donovan smacked a single to right that would plate Patenaude and Brown to give the Owl a 3-0 lead.

After the Beavers played small ball to score a run in their half of the first, the Owls were ready to provide more offensive fireworks in the second.  The Owls plated 4 runs on RBL singles from Bell and Brown and Patenaude added an RBI producing double to give Presque Isle a commanding 7-1 lead.

The Beavers would add runs in the bottom of the second and fourth as Owl hurler Packard scattered 6 hits, giving up just 2 earned runs in her first collegiate win of her young pitching career and securing the first win for UMPI's new head coach Sara Shaw.

On the day, Bell had 3 hits, Brown and Patenaude had two hits apiece and Amanda Allen scored 2 runs, while Packard struck out 6 in her 10 innings on the mound for Presque Isle.
