MACHIAS, ME – The Maine Presque Isle Volleyball team traveled to Machias on Saturday and split a doubleheader.  The Owls dropped the first match in straight sets before sweeping the last match.

The Clippers took control early and won three straight sets by the scores of 25-18, 25-16, and 25-20. Colleen Kostovick (FR, Greenwood, ME) would lead the charge with eleven kills. Junior Savannah Hayden (Cato, NY) helped the cause by recording 16 assists and 17 digs for the Clippers.  Hannah Williams (FR, Park Falls, NS) had 14 assists, Abby Jewett (JR, Bass Harbor, ME) recorded seven digs, and Morgan Swan (SR, Caribou, ME) added six kills for the Owls.

The Owls were able to turn the tables in the second match, sweeping it by scores of 25-16, 25-14, and 25-13.  Jewett and Hannah Boyce (SR, Bar Harbor, ME) each recorded eleven kills in the well-rounded attack.  Jewett would also add 18 digs in the effort, while Williams recorded 28 assists.  Hayden had nine assists in the losing effort for the Clippers.

UMPI returns to action on Saturday, October 10^th.  They will face Green Mountain College at 2 PM followed by Lyndon State at 4 PM.  Both matches will be played at Lyndon State.
