Lady Owls Basketball Defeat Clippers at Home

dscn1475-500Presque Isle, Me - The University of Maine at Presque Isle women’s basketball team placed five players in double-digit scoring as they earned the 59-47 victory over the Clippers of UMaine Machias.  With the win, the Lady Owls improve to 5-10 on the season, and 5-1 in Sunrise Conference play.

The Owls were led by Megan Korhonen (Littleton, ME) who earned a double-double on the day, finishing with 13 points and 12 rebounds, including 3 assists and 3 steals.  Teammate Julie Peers (Caswell, ME) totaled her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds.  Emily Moore (Lisbon, ME) chipped in with 10 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals in the win.  Logahn Walker (Strong, ME) and Emily Pelletier (Fort Kent, ME) each added 10 points on the day; Pelletier also dished out 3 assists in the win.

Although they were out-rebounded 45-43, the Owls earned the 29-24 halftime advantage and outscored their opponents by 7 in the second half.

The University of Maine at Machias was led by Sabree Rodriguez, who had 18 points and 12 rebounds in the Clipper loss.  Hamyriah McPherson finished with 12 points, while Janyne Pringle grabbed 10 rebounds and added 5 points. 

The Owls are back in action at home on Saturday, February 6th, as they look to host the Bengals of the University of Maine at Fort Kent.  Tipoff is at 1:00 pm.
