Meet the Coach - Tracy Guerrette

coach_guerrette-200The University of Maine at Presque Isle is extremely fortunate to have someone of Tracy Guerrette's background leading our Women's basketball program. She enters her third year as the head women's basketball coach having succeeded at every level of the sport and we believe she will also succeed in making the Owls one of the top small college programs in Maine.

She was a 4-time MVP of her Wisdom high school team in St Agatha, Maine, where she led her team to the State Championship in 1998. That same year she was the Tournament MVP and a First Team All-State selection. She was named the winner of the Owen Osborne Award by the Bangor Daily News that year as well. She capped off her senior year by being selected as a Maine State Hall of Fame Scholar-athlete.

She was recruited by University of Maine Coach Joanne Palombo McCallie, who is the most successful coach in UMaine history.  Tracy received numerous awards, both athletically and academically, during her four years at the University of Maine, and was named captain of the team for her junior and senior years. She is still a co-holder of the record for the most 3-point shots made in a game at Maine and was a member of the only Maine team to make it to the second round of the NCAA tournament, when they beat Stanford in 1999.

Tracy has played for some of the top coaches in the country and has learned about the ins and outs of coaching from each one of them. Coach P. McCallie is now coaching at Duke University and Coach Sharon Versyp, her second coach at Maine, is currently the head coach at Purdue.  Both of these coaches recognized Tracy's work ethic, determination, and intelligence and her intense desire to work hard to become the best player that she could be.  She brings that same commitment, and all of her years of experience under some of the best basketball minds in the country, to the University of Maine at Presque Isle campus.  Coach Guerrette is excited as she enters her third year as head coach at UMPI.
