Owls Race in Waterville

Owls Race in Waterville

Waterville, ME – The University of Maine at Presque Isle Owls men and women Cross Country teams traveled down to Thomas College to compete in their second meet of the year. UMPI and Thomas were the two schools competing live at the event as four other North Atlantic Conference schools participated virtually.

Women's

The women's team took the starting line first, on the technical, and consequently slower course. The Owls trailed Terrier runner Audrey Kimball at the half-mile mark, before the Owls steady pace got all four Owls runners to the one, two, three, and five positions just a mile into the race. Elizabeth Bitar (Percy, ME) led the Owls finishing first in the live race with a time of 26:57.

Kendra Silvers was the next UMPI runner to finish with a time of 27:41. Sophomore Jayde Whitten (St. Albans, ME) finished in a time of 27:52 while Annaset Jackson (Wilton, ME) finished with a 31:28 time.

Men's

The men's course, a different terrain than the UMPI course, has many short ups and downs to cause a tough race for runners new to the course. Zack McAllister (Waterville, ME) finished first for the Owls team with a time of 36:35, giving him a seventh place finish. Campton Tinkham (Manchester, ME) finished with a time of 41:57 and a 10th place finish.

Coach Chris Smith talks about the season, "This was a good way to finish up our very short season.  We were fortunate to be able to run against Thomas College twice, a luxury not seen by most D3 schools nationwide.  We're hoping to have a more comprehensive track and field season this spring".

The Owls have finished up their 2020 cross country season, as they look to continue to train for the next season.
