Women's Cross Country at Bowdoin

BRUNSWICK, ME – Even though the Owls finished eighth of eight schools on Saturday, they showed marked improvement over their previous meet at Gordon College on the 14th.   The host Polar Bears were the meet winners with the low score of 27 points, and were followed by St. Edward's College, Southern Maine, Endicott, U-Maine Farmington, Husson, and Maine Maritime.  The Mariners ended just 12 points ahead of the Owls for seventh place.

Emmy Churchill (SO, Washburn, ME) was again the team leader, in at 28:32 for the 6K course, good enough for 53rd place of the 89 finishers.  Churchill was followed by Chenoa Jackson (JR, Wilton, ME) (68th 30:54), Kendra Silvers (FR, North Berwick, ME) (70th, 31:11), Jennie Sanborn (JR, Sangerville, ME) (88th, 44:17), and Sarina Raposo (FR, Providence, RI) (89th, 47:21).  Raposo ran a full minute per mile faster than her run at Gordon College, in spite of the increased distance.  Sanborn ran a very consistent race in this, her cross country debut.

The Owls are now preparing for the State Championship meet to be held at Bowdoin on October 14th, which will be the traditional 5K distance.
