Heat a Factor at Nationals

LAKELAND, FL – Three University of Maine at Presque Isle runners were in the field for the USCAA National Meet this morning, finishing 72nd, 87th, and 89th

Chenoa Jackson (FR, Wilton, ME) paced the Owls with a time 6K time of 30:54.  Tabitha Taylor (SO, Ticonderoga, NY) and Sara Bell (JR, Unity, ME) finished with identical 33:01 times.

Aine McMorrow of SUNY-Canton won the race with a time of 23:34.  Berea College of Kentucky won the women's overall championship.  Only five teams completed the race with the five finishers needed to gain a team score for the event, as the race was marred by the hot temperatures and 74% humidity of central Florida.

"Extreme heat caused changes in race tactics with teams from northern climates paying the price and likely not performing as might have otherwise," said Head Coach Chris Smith afterwards.  "We're hoping to represent UMPI with a complete team next year."
