BRUNSWICK, ME – Five of six Owls runners set personal bests on Saturday. While the University of Maine at Presque Isle Women's Cross Country team finished 11th, they continue to steadily close the gap with their competitors.
Chenoa Jackson (FR, Wilton, ME) led the team with a 23:17 time. Tabitha Taylor (SO, Ticonderoga, NY) and Sara Bell (JR, Unity, ME) finished the 5K within seconds of each other, in just over 24 minutes. All three set times that meet institutional qualifications for the USCAA national meet that will be held in Lakeland, Florida on November 6th.
Head Coach Chris Smith talked about his team's effort afterwards. "All runners started out perhaps a bit too quickly, coming through the mile mark faster than planned, this due to being somewhat rested and running in such a competitive race. Elise Gudde (FR, Caribou, ME) ran well in spite of shin pain and Shawna McDonough (SR, Alexander, ME) dropped below 30 minutes for the first time in her three seasons of cross country. Katrina McPherson (SR, Caribou, ME) shaved over a minute of her previous high school PR, a testament to her dedication and tenacity while racing."
The Owls have a schedule change this weekend and will now be traveling to Thomas College on Friday. The race starts at 2PM.
