The UMPI Owls Lady harriers notched their first team placing Saturday at the University of New England Invitational as five of the six runners ran and turned in their first collegiate time or improved on last week's performances.
UNEs Brittany Sorbello set the pace for the Nor'easters, winning with a time of 18:40, leading her mates to a convincing score of 19 points and the win.
Holly Bouvier, the first Owls finisher, (Littleton, ME) made it to the first mile marker in 8:17 and ran a much more evenly paced race this time around before finishing with a strong kick and a 26:14 time over this slightly shorter than standard 5k course (3.03mi/4880m), good enough for 110th place of 138 finishers.
Firm footing and very dry conditions saw Misty Steward (Dixfield, ME) improve her time by better than two minutes, in at 28:15 and 122nd place. Team scoring was rounded out by Sara Sullivan of Lebanon, ME (133rd, 30:32), Katrina McPherson of Caribou, ME (134th, 30:48), and Shawna McDonough of Woodland, ME (139th, 31:32).
Such solid performances provide the information needed to set training for the next two weeks going into the September 27th Gordon College Pop Crowell Invitational.
