Biddeford, Maine - A 15 institution field of New England's best harriers made for exciting racing on Saturday, made more so by the three inches of rain that fell on the Rotary Park course in Biddeford in the 48 hours prior to race day.  A slightly shortened course (5150 to 4920 meters) due to a resultant "pond", near end of the traditional 5k,  nevertheless yielded fast times and a lot of changing of positions.

The Owl's Kayla Legassie ran her race to perfection in setting a fast early pace, putting her in eighth place at the mile mark in this 137 women field.  In following her "move up always" philosophy, Legassie was seventh at the two mile and finished the 3.05 mile course in fifth place at 19:47.  The 19:47 clocking, when adjusted for the shortened course, reflected a 2:30 improvement over her race of a year ago.

Ghaz Sailors, running relatively unhampered from her minor setback of a week earlier, was in at 23:35, an indication that she is at least on pace with her 2012 rookie season of running competively.  Destinee Neureuther finished at 24:25, good enough for a strong 92nd place finish.

The scoring was rounded out by freshman Breanna Kafka (126th, 29:17) and Shawna McDonough (134th, 32:27).  The lady Owls placed eight in the 15 institution field with 11 schools having complete teams.

The Owl's next race at Bowdoin College on September 28th.
