Coach Jonathon Bowman is in his second year as the Head Coach of the Owls Volleyball Program.

Bowman comes to the Owls with vast experience in volleyball, most recently with the United States Youth Volleyball League in Long Beach, California.  He also coached multiple teams for TCA Junior Olympic Volleyball in Newport Beach for eight years prior to his most recent assignment.

Bowman also has extensive experience in collegiate volleyball.  He has been on the coaching staffs at the University of Wyoming, University of Maryland-Baltimore County, College of Holy Cross, Loyola College in Maryland, and University of Rochester.  He has worked summer camps for Penn State University, University of Minnesota, University of California at Santa Barbara, and Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri.

In his short tenure at UMPI the Volleyball team has grown in leaps and bounds.  The team has seen a dramatic increase in numbers, they have more then doubled their win total from his first to second year, and a marked improvement in every statistical category.  The 11 wins in 2017 marks the best record for the Owls in recent history.

Bowman will have other duties at the University.  In addition to coaching volleyball, he will serve as an instructor in the physical education department, and work in residence life.

Coach Bowman's Favorite Quotes:

"That concerns me. You're either getting better or you're getting worse. I don't think you stay the same in sports. If we want to achieve something special in this game, then these players have to recognize that they're responsible every day for getting better." Russ Rose

"I am a member of a team, and I rely on the team, I defer to it and sacrifice for it, because the team, not the individual, is the ultimate champion." Mia Hamm

"Competition is key to developing players. The only practice environment in which you truly develop a player is a competitive arena." Anson Dorrance

“I've missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed.” Michael Jordan
