Presque Isle, ME – The UMPI Owls volleyball team hosted North Atlantic Conference opponent Maine Maritime Academy, who came into the match with a 7-0 NAC record. The Owls fell to the Mariners in both matches, 3-0. The Mariners took the first match, 25-10, 25-14, 25-6 and the second match, 25-22, 25-19, 25-15.
UMPI – 0 vs MMA – 3: 25-10, 25-14, 25-6
How it Happened: The Mariners took control of each set early, and controlling the majority of the match. The Mariners finished with 32 total kills in the three sets, opposed to the Owls nine. The Mariners finished with ten errors on their 76 attacks while the Owls had 20 errors on their 72 attacks, also 41 digs to 26, also in the Mariners favor.
Key Performances: Alexis Engel (Burns, WY) led the Owls on the defensive end with seven digs. Rachel Walker (Pelham, AL) finished the match with four total points, coming off two service aces and two kills. Makayla Miskiewicz (Orlando, FL) finished with a team high three kills on nine attempts.
UMPI – 0 vs MMA – 3: 25-22, 25-19, 25-15
How it Happened: The Owls came out in the second match like a different team, putting the pressure on the Mariners. Each team finished the first set with ten kills each, although the Mariners continued that pace with a total of 34 kills on the match, the Owls finished with 21 kills.
Key Performances: Makayla Miskiewicz (Orlando, FL) led UMPI in kills with seven, adding one service ace and two block assists, giving her a team high nine points earned. Paige McArthur (USMC) finished the match with six kills and Alondra Lopez (Los Angeles, CA) finished with five. Hailey Kelly led the team with 12 assists, while Alexis Engel (Burns, WY) yet again led the Owls in digs with 17.
This concludes the Owls regular season as they finish 4-16 on the year and 3-5 in the NAC. The Owls are projected to make the playoff, schedule will be posted shortly.
